CO2 laser tube regassing.

Porcaro Dynamics is developing a regassing service for glass CO2 laser tubes, aimed mainly at tubes that are end-of-support or hard to find, where a replacement is expensive, rare, or slow to ship. It is not something you can order yet.

There are no dates, prices or promises about how a regassed tube will perform on this page, and there will not be until the process is proven out. If you want to hear when it is ready, use the notify form below.

What Regassing Is

A glass CO2 laser tube is a sealed glass envelope filled with a gas mixture. As the tube is used, that mixture breaks down, and output drops even when nothing is physically broken. That is gas depletion, and it is one of the ordinary ways a tube reaches the end of its life.

Regassing means evacuating the tube and refilling it with fresh laser gas. When gas depletion is the only problem, it addresses the cause directly instead of replacing the whole tube.

What It Cannot Fix

Regassing only fixes gas depletion. A tube with cracked glass, a worn cathode, or damaged internal optics is not a candidate, and neither is a machine whose real problem is alignment, dirty optics or a failing power supply.

So every tube will get an intake diagnosis first. I would rather find out a tube is not a candidate before quoting anything than after. If your machine has lost power and you are not sure why, start with laser engraver and laser cutter repair; it may not be the tube at all.

Planned Later

Core exchange, and regassed tubes kept on the shelf, so a shop that is down is not waiting on a rebuild. These come after the regassing process itself is proven.

Dead Tubes Wanted

I am collecting dead glass CO2 tubes to work on while the process is developed. If you have old ones gathering dust, get in touch at peter@porcarodyn.com.
